Computer imitates the pencil.
Lesson
2.
Part 1. |

If you look at the pencil drawing made manually, you will see that the
work can be divided into two stages:
1. Creating the contour of the illustration of an object.
2. Shading, which reveals the form of the object by light and
shadow?
Let’s try to create on the computer the two stages
separately, then to
unite them.
We take an image, made in one of the 3-dimensional programs and open it in
the program Photoshop.
In my example it is a residential building.

Let’s start
with shading the future illustration. Prepare shading a duplicate of the
image by command “Image, duplicate”. Save the image by giving it a
name. |

Fill in the
image with a texture, similar to the pencil line. I used the filter "Phototexture"
from the set of filters “Fhototools”, Extensis Co.
Remark: Filter “Phototools” is not
included in the basic set supplied with the program Photoshop. You may use any
other program to form the texture or take the texture prepared here.
It is
necessary to create a texture of chaotic, yet orderly, lines. Therefore,
the effect “Lines” suits us.
You should place
characteristics in the program, as is shown in a picture. Let’s add some relief, like a pencil
on rough paper. It is done by using “Add Bump” so you have got a
texture reminding dense pencil shading.

Fill in our
image with it by pressing the button “Apply”. If one does not have
this knob - just take the one made here. |

We shall
use the option “Fade” for our last action of “Filling in the
texture”. A dialogue window will be opened, which allows the user to
control the mixing of the picture before and after using one or another
action or filter from the accessible modes of changing the
color from one picture to the other. |

We
chose the mode “Color dodge” which throws light upon our
picture in accordance with the basic color of our image and created by
us shaded texture.
Looking at the picture we see that we have got a picture with the
of a pencil
shading. |

|
We
shall remove by command “Image-Adjust-Desaturate” reduce a saturation
of color and we shall lower picture contrast, having made its gray
color. We have finished a stage of creation a of picture shading.
The picture which we have received, reminds shading a pencil. However on
the picture there is no clear line of the artist, revealing sides
between crossed planes. |
